Voigtlander 21mm Ultron Aspherical on Sony NEX-7

TechTalk with Ron Sheffler tested the new Voigtlander 21mm f/1.8 Aspherical Ultron against three other Leica M 21mm lenses on the Leica M9. He also used the lenses on the Sony NEX-7 and found that the Voigtlander 21mm f/1.8 the best at farther distances and large apertures. The Leica 21 f/3.4 Super Elmar-M came in second, the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 Biogon in third, and the Leica 21 f/1.4 Summilux at the back of the pack. At f/4 all the lenses performed equally well on the NEX-7's APS-C sensor.

NEX-7 with Voigtlander Sigma and Fuji Lenses in Turkey

NEX-7 with Voigtlander 15mm, Sigma 30mm, and Fujinon 50mm lens

Here is a set of pictures by Emmanuel C. taken in Turkey with his Sony NEX-7. He brought along a pair of adapted manual focus lenses: Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 Super Wide Heliar and the Fujinon 50mm f/1.9 lens. He also used the native E-mount autofocus the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 DN lens. This provides a nice set covering 22.5mm, 45mm, and 75mm equivalent field of view.

Voigtlander 21mm Ultron NEX Friendly?

Voigtlander 21mm f/1.8 Ultron

Here is a new Leica M mount lens from Voigtlander. It is a fast f/1.8, 21mm wide angle lens. This translates to 30mm (effective FOV) for the Sony NEX sensor. The big question is, will it play well with the APS-C sensor? We are hoping that it does and give us a fast, wide angle lens similar to the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 ZA E. The manual focus and aperture, Leica M mount, Voigtlander 21mm f/1.8 Ultron will cost £1149. It is almost twice the weight of the Zeiss 24mm.

We finally took the NEX-7 out for a test run with a Voigtlander 35mm f/1.7 Ultron in Leica thread mount. The camera is a lot of fun to use. Here are the JPG images straight from the camera. Only straightened, cropped, and downsized for web upload. Some where converted to black and white.

NEX-C3 in the Sahara Morocco and High Atlas

A Owens posted pictures of his adventure with his sons in the Sahara desert. Here is what he wrote:

Left all the Canon gear at home for this trip and went light with the NEX C3 only together with Voigty 15mm, Zeiss 21/4.5 and 50/2 and Elmarit 90/2.8. My youngest 2 sons were with me camping into the desert to sample life without Xbox, TV, western comforts etc.. They loved it.

Here are A Owens shots with the Sony NEX-C3 and some manual focus lenses. It's nice to see that the C3 won't be a stumbling block for making great memories.

NEX-5N and Wide Angle Lenses Gallery

Carl S. was generous enough to share his gallery of adapted lenses on the Sony NEX-5N. The lenses used were mostly Voigtlander lenses in Leica M mount. There are also Contax G lenses and a Canon 24mm Tilt Shift Lens.

Sony NEX Converted Voigtlander 25mm 0.95 on eBay

Suwen emailed us and told us that he converted the low light Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 lens for the Sony NEX E-mount. He wasn't pleased with the micro four thirds to E-mount adapter since the lens couldn't achieve focus at infinity on the NEX. The converted CV 25mm f/0.95 lens is now on eBay.



As you can see from the video about, the Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 is great for low light with such a large aperture but since it was designed for the smaller micro four thirds sensor it vignettes on the Sony NEX's aps-c sensor. Check out Suwen's website for more sample photos.

Let's go wide with the Sony NEX via the Voigtlander 12mm f/5.6 Ultrawide Heliar Lens in Leica M mount. This is the widest rectilinear prime lens for Leica M cameras and it does well on the NEX's APS-C sensor. The lens gives an equivalent focal length of 18mm on the NEX cameras for photos and 21.6mm for videos. Sony NEX-5 with Voigtlander 25mm 0.95 Lens

Here are some photos by Woodent taken with the Sony NEX-5 and the new Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 Lens for micro four thirds cameras. Woodent used the adapter on eBay that we posted about previously.

As you can see the Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 is designed for the tiny sensored µ4/3 system and therefore vignettes heavily on the Sony NEX-5. Woodent also mentions that the Micro Four Thirds to Sony NEX E-mount lens adapter cannot give proper infinity focus. This is unfortunate but the center of the images look sharp.
