Sony NEX-5 Climbing Up Japan Sales Chart

Here is the tally of the sales of digital cameras in Japan for the 1st week of August. The NEX-5 Dual Lens Bundles are in 3rd (black) and 7th (silver) place. Can anyone tell us why they would be split apart? Both the silver and black NEX-5 kits are climbing. Can they pass the Nikon D90 or the Rebel T2i?

The tiny sensored µ4/3 cameras make their 1st showing in 12th place. We believe that as the more consumers are exposed to the NEX line of cameras, they will see the big advantage over the µ4/3 system.

GK emptied out his photo bag and came up with this monster.

NEX-5 with flash, Sony LA-EA1 adapter, MD->MA adapter, Cosina 2x, Vivitar 2x and Tamron 2x teleconverters, Minolta MD extension ring set (28mm, 21mm, and 14mm), Vivitar 120-600 f5.6-8 MD mount lens, 82mm lens hood.

So if our math is correct, the effective focal length is 120-600mm * 1.5x [sensor] * (2x)^3 [teleconverters] = 1440 to 7200mm.

This is assuming that the MD>MA adapter is 1:1.

Adobe Updates Photoshop and Lightroom to Support NEX RAW files

Adobe has released the Adobe® Photoshop® Camera Raw 6.2 plug-in and Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 3.2 updates which support the Sony NEX-5 and NEX-3 RAW files. We can now edit RAW files taken with the NEX in Windows machines with either Photoshop CS5 or Lightroom 3.

Camera Raw 6.2 and Lightroom 3.2 also adds Lens Profile Support for the Sony E 18-55mm OSS Lens which corrects distortion, chromatic aberration, and vignetting.

Apple released Sony NEX RAW support about a week ago.

H.P. Moon sent us a link to cool video starring the Sony NEX-5 with the 18-55 OSS lens. The short film was created by Constantine Konovalov. He used the Sony Alpha A230 and the NEX-5 and with great editing came out with a gem in "Moscow - City For Animation."

Apple Adds Sony NEX RAW Support for OSX

Apple updated their Camera Raw Compatibility to v3.3. This adds support for Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 RAW files. You can now use Aperture and iPhoto to open and edit Sony NEX RAW files.

Sony NEX-5 Leica 21mm Elmarit-M ASPH

chan from hklfc posted samples from his Sony NEX-5 and the Leica 21mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M ASPH. The ultimate wide angle lens in M mount gives the NEX an ideal 31.5 equivalent focal length for street snapshots. He seems to have taken full advantage of the Sony E-mount and the Leica glass.
